The neo natal care act was passed in 2023 yesterday January 21st the department of business and trade published the regulations which bring the law into effect. The law becomes operative from April 5th 2025.
To qualify for neo natal leave and pay babies aged upto 28 days who require neo natal care need to stay in hospital for at least 7 days.
Parents or Carers of babies who meet these conditions will now be able to claim up to 12 weeks additional leave on top of the existing family leaves.
Assuming the parents qualify statutory neo natal care pay will be at the same rate as the other ‘family’ leave payments which from April become £184.03 per week.
Neo Natal leave becomes a day1 one right.
Although this right predates the governments Employment Rights bill currently going through parliament it shows the direction of travel the government is following in establishing day 1 rights.
Hopefully the take up will be very small the new right will require an amendment to your existing family policies. Existing retained clients should contact me to receive an updated policy.
